Rubiá welcomed 162 brave cyclists on a day where sport and wine went hand in hand
Rain and wind did not prevent 162 cyclists from taking part in the fifth edition of the BTT Ruta do Viño de Valdeorras, an event that combined sport, nature and wine tourism in the spectacular setting of the Serra da Enciña da Lastra Natural Park.
The day began at 9:30 a.m. in A Baicela square, where authorities such as Montserrat Rodríguez (Vice President of the Ruta do Viño), Xosé Manuel Merelles (Director of the Galician Tourism Agency), María Carmen González (representative of the Ourense Provincial Council) and Elías Rodríguez (Mayor of Rubiá) highlighted during the opening ceremony the value of this initiative in promoting the attractions of the region.
Participants were able to choose between two routes:
-
A 45 km long route for more experienced cyclists
-
A 37 km route for occasional riders
Both routes passed through unique landscapes such as Covas and Vilardesilva, with refreshment points where cyclists replenished their energy while tasting wines from wineries associated with the Ruta do Viño.
While the cyclists tackled the mountains, their companions enjoyed a tour through the vineyards followed by a wine tasting featuring wines from the Casal and Cepado de Rubiá wineries, showing that the event offered options for all audiences.
Despite the adverse weather conditions, the fifth edition of the event confirmed the success of a formula that combines active sport, autumn landscapes and wine heritage.
The 5th BTT Ruta do Viño concluded with the satisfaction of having shown that, in Valdeorras, even a rainy day can become an opportunity to discover the essence of this land among vineyards, trails and glasses of Godello and Mencía.
